Statement of Faith

Fruit That Remains is an interdenominational mission that works alongside many churches and Christian missions in Southern and Eastern Africa. We are followers of Jesus. Our statement of faith can be found in the Nicene Creed:

We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come. Amen.

    Hunger For Community

    From “Building a Discipling Culture” by Mike Breen and Steve Cockram

    Jesus did not command us to build the Church; in fact, He only mentioned the word twice. But He did call us to make disciples, literally to make learners after him.

    Effective discipleship builds the Church, not the other way round. We need to understand the Church as the effect of discipleship and not the cause. If you set out to make disciples, you will inevitably build the Church. If you set out to build the church, there is no guarantee you will make disciples. It is far more likely that you will create a consumer who depends on the spiritual services that professionals like yourself provide for them.

    The Lord has chosen people – not plans or programs – to spread his message. Yet somehow most of our attention and energy has shifted from making disciples to developing programs, buildings and budgets. As the next generation emerges, the endeavor must now be to move the church away from the things that distract us from Christ’s call toward that which will create and sustain a living, organic body of relational disciples.
